"I must therefore submit to this law: I cannot penetrate, cannot reach into the Photograph. I can only sweep it with my glance, like a smooth surface. The photograph is flat, platitudinous in the true sense of the word, that is what I must acknowledge."

Roland Barthes, ‘Camera Lucida: Reflections on Photography’.

10/06/10. Update: Portraits Project on Julia Margaret Cameron

Research so far has initiated some exciting plans, including learning the Wet Collodion process. Negatives are made by pouring Collodion liquid onto glass to carefully coat, dunking in a silver nitrate bath, then whilst still damp, loading into the back of a camera and exposing before it dries. Really tricky - wish me luck!

A series of site and context specific works are being devised for St Thomas' churchyard as part of this summer's week long Arts Festival on the Isle of Wight. The deconsecrated space has been partly converted into a well used public garden in the centre of the busy seaside town and will feature works sited in the trees and around the remaining gravestones. Curated by Lauren Fry who led last years successful 'Homegrown' exhibition, the installation along with fellow artist Lisa Traxler will take place on 2nd July, the festival runs until the 11th.
